St Pats bounce back from European disappointment with win over Athlone

St Patrick's Athletic have moved up to third in the SSE Airtricity League with a 2-0 victory away to Athlone Town.

Liam Buckley's side were on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing against Legia Warsaw on Wednesday night but showed no signs of a European hangover this evening.

Chris Forrester's eight minute goal was added to by Sean Hoare with 18 minutes remaining, a result which sees the Saints leapfrog Shamrock Rovers into third position.

In other League of Ireland news, Damien Richardson has been appointed as the new manager of Drogheda United.
