Good Friday ended a great week for Shamrock Rovers as they dispensed with UCD's challenge to claim their first league win in three weeks.
Tallaght Stadium was rocking again after a fine second-half performance secured a well-deserved three points. The best chance of the first half fell to Karl Sheppard, who rattled a header off an upright from an Enda Stevens cross.
UCD, who played some neat football at times, spurned two golden opportunities just minutes after the break and they paid the price when Sheppard turned home a terrific cross from Stevens on 69 minutes.
Three minutes later the champions snatched a second as Ronan Finn smartly dispatched the chance Gary O'Neill had given him.
Robbie Benson gave UCD some hope on 81 minutes, but Billy Dennehy put the result beyond doubt when he latched onto Finn's through ball a minute later.
