Ronan Coughlan hat-trick helps Sligo Rovers to win over struggling Students
Sligo Rovers 5 UCD 1
Ronan Coughlan scored a hat-trick as Sligo Rovers came from behind to record a comfortable win over relegation candidates UCD at The Showgrounds.
Johnny Dunleavy and Romeo Parkes were also on target for Liam Buckley’s charges who recovered after falling behind early on to Liam Scales goal for the visitors.
Bottom of the table UCD came to The Showgrounds on the back of an abysmal sequence of 10 successive defeats, with Sligo attempting to bounce back from their non-performance away to Finn Harps.
The visitors, who only named four substitutes for this fixture, took the lead eight minutes in when Liam Scales headed home a corner delivery from Richie O'Farrell.
Sligo, stung by UCD's opener, were denied an equaliser two minutes later when Conor Kearns did well to keep out Ronan Coughlan's curler.
The hosts levelled after 21 minutes when defender Johnny Dunleavy got his head to David Cawley's corner and a minute later they went 2-1 up with a tidy finish from Ronan Coughlan.
A second goal from Ronan Coughlan – the lively Romeo Parkes set it up – put Sligo in the driving seat on 45 minutes.
Romeo Parkes made it 4-1 with a simple finish after 50 minutes and two minutes later ex-Cork City player Ronan Coughlan scored his third to increase UCD’s misery.
