Gary McCabe's seventh goal of the season lifted Bray up to third place in the Premier Division.

Ten-man Wanderers also registered their first top-flight clean sheet in eight months as winless Galway remain rooted to the table.

There had never been a scoreless draw in 54 matches in all competitions between the clubs since they first met back in 1986.

That record was maintained at the Carlisle Grounds last night when Wanderers went in front in the 35th minute.

Aaron Greene flicked on for the breaking McCabe, who looked to have handled as he burst into the box. His initial effort was parried by Conor Winn, but the former Shamrock Rovers man prodded in the loose ball.

The Tribesmen were thrown a life-line on 62 minutes when Seagulls skipper Conor Kenna was dismissed. Having been booked in the first half for a foul on Jesse Deever, the defender picked up a second yellow for bringing down Colm Horgan.

Either side of the red card, Dylan Connolly and McCabe spurned chances to add to Bray's tally, but they climbed above Derry nonetheless.
