Dundalk have received a timely boost with their captain Stephen O'Donnell committing to the league champions for the next two seasons.

O'Donnell will go into a fifth season with the Louth men after signing on just 24 hours Sean Gannon also confirmed he would be staying at Oriel Park. Dane Massey has also extended his contract with Dundalk, who will have to plan for 2017 without Preston-bound Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle as well as Ronan Finn, who makes the switch to Shamrock Rovers.

"The season just gone is all in the past now," said O'Donnell. "It's over with and we did have a good adventure. There's no denying that but we have to focus on next season now.

"We want to do even better next season than we did this year. It was a great experience this year but the focus is to make sure we get the same experience next year.

"We have lost a couple of players but them leaving is yesterday's news. We have to focus on ourselves going forward and what we can do."
