Morrison soars to take points for UCD
UCD 2 Drogheda United 1
UCD ended a seven-game winless run by coming from behind to beat Drogheda United at Belfield.
A first-half strike from Gary O'Neill seemed to have the visitors cruising to a rare away win, but captain Robbie Benson and striker Cillian Morrison turned things in favour of the Students.
UCD started brightly, forcing several chances, but Drogheda woke up and took the lead just past the half-hour, with O'Neill superbly curling his shot home from close range.
Whatever sort of reaction Aaron Callaghan demanded during the interval, it fell on deaf ears as the hosts didn't trouble Ryan until the 70th minute through a Robbie Creevy shot.
However, they were not about to give up and Benson raced clear to slot home a pass from Samir Belhout on 79 minutes.
Still reeling from that setback, Drogheda failed to deal with a free-kick from Chris Mulhall and Morrison rose highest to head in the winner.
UCD will take great confidence from this result as Callaghan's troops aim to get their season back on track.
Drogheda are now without a win in six games and Robbie Horgan has work to do to turn them into a more clinical outfit.
