Meehan keeps Saints on march

ST Patrick's Athletic produced a tremendous free-flowing display at the Brandywell to easily claim the points against a disappointing Derry City side.

Liam Buckley's outfit, who dominated throughout, had a super chance to take the lead on 10 minutes when Christy Fagan released Chris Forrester, but the striker's close-range shot was kept out by Gerard Doherty.

Right on the stroke of half-time, the visitors deservedly took the lead after some slack marking by City. Substitute Meehan got in behind Higgins and saw his header from the right-hand side of the box loop over Doherty.

Fagan should have doubled St Pat's lead shortly after the break, but the striker saw his shot saved by Doherty.

John Russell went close for Pat's on 55 minutes before the visitors got their second in strange circumstances. Sean O'Connor's shot should have been a easy take for Doherty, but the 'keeper misjudged it and the ball flew past him to secure the points for Pat's.
