McMillan sinks Fingal

Sporting Fingal 1 UCD 2

UCD prevented Sporting Fingal going top of the table as a last-gasp winner from Evan McMillan secured victory for the Students at Morton Stadium after Eamon Zayed and Andy Boyle had exchanged first-half goals.

Fingal took the lead with their first attack after four minutes. Zayed finished off a nice move, his right-footed shot going past a helpless Billy Brennan from just inside the box after a Conan Byrne pass.

UCD deservedly equalised in the 18th minute. Paul Corry's curling cross from a deep free-kick found Boyle at the back post, and he had the freedom of the six-yard box to head the ball past Clarke.

McMillan came close with the last attack of the half and the referee could have done with video technology for this one -- despite UCD protests, the linesman said Lorcan Fitzgerald had cleared the ball from on the line, not behind it.

Fingal started the second half better, Fitzgerald, Byrne and Shaun Williams all going close. Alan Kirby and Byrne then both forced good saves from Brennan as Fingal searched for a goal.

That goal should have come on 68 minutes, but Kirby's shot somehow squeezed past an upright with the help of a deflection from McMillan.

Boyle almost scored an own-goal four minutes later, his wild slice from Ronan Finn's cross cracking off an upright and out for a corner.

The winning goal then came in the 87th minute as Chris Mulhall's corner was headed in by McMillan to give his side all three points.
