McLaughlin on double as Derry cruise through

Derry City 4 Finn Harps 0

DERRY City cruised into the fourth round with a comfortable victory over their neighbours.

The Brandywell side never really got out of second gear, but they didn't need to -- after Stephen McLaughlin's first-half brace, the time was effectively over.

The visitors had a super chance to take the lead after 10 minutes, but Paul McVeigh's low drive was parried away by Gerard Doherty.

The deadlock was broken on 30 minutes when Patrick McEleney's corner was sidefooted home by McLaughlin. He helped himself to another goal 10 minutes later, volleying home from 20 yards.

Derry netted a third on 57 minutes when Rory Patterson made no mistake from 12 yards. And the hosts scored a fourth on 58 minutes through a well-placed Barry Molloy header.

Derry City -- Doherty; Madden, S McEleney (McCallion 71), McBride, McCaffrey; Morrison, Higgins, Molloy, McLaughlin; P McEleney (Farren 64), Patterson (McDaid 75).

Finn Harps -- Gallagher; McVeigh, Coll, Hutton, O'Hagan, McGowan, McBride, Tracey (Duffy 71), Bonner, Harkin (Merritt 56), Green.
