If League of Ireland footballers want inspiration for making a success of themselves in the business world, they should look no further than ex-Derry City and Bohemians winger Gareth McGlynn.

After experiencing the ups and downs of the League of Ireland, McGlynn (right) emigrated in 2012 along with his wife Ciara - a former Irish international footballer - to plan for life after sport.

The couple quickly began to make waves in the recruitment industry, gaining experience in Australia and New York.

McGlynn, who was 30 when he emigrated, had a degree in engineering and looked for work aligned with that field. Ciara, a business and marketing graduate, worked in the financial sphere.

They relocated to Donegal last year after the birth of their first daughter and used their expertise to found Niche Specialist Staffing Partners - an Irish-owned and based international recruitment firm.

Although still based in an office in Donegal, they are working with clients such as employers in the construction trade in North Carolina.

The business is going well and they hope to create 15 jobs in Donegal within two years.

The pair's progress was recognised when they were selected for the final of Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur contest.
