This is what Derry City supporters have been crying out for all season.

Their free-flowing attacking football throughout was too much for a disappointing Drogheda United side.

Not for the first time, Patrick McEleney was plugging the strings for the Candystripes.

Derry took the lead on 21 minutes in sublime fashion, Patrick McEleney's inch-perfect cross-field pass from the right found an unmarked Michael Duffy and his left-footed volley fizzed into United goalkeeper David Ryan's bottom left-hand corner.

The home side deservedly doubled their advantage, thanks to some more great play by McEleney on 65 minutes.

The 21-year-old ran a full 40 yards down the left flank before his delightful centre found Rory Patterson at the back post and the striker gleefully side-footed home past Ryan.

United were unlucky not to pull one back on 80 minutes when the home side failed to clear their lines properly, but substitute Delcan O'Brien saw his well-hit drive fly straight at Doherty.
