Marks sparks Drogheda stroll

Drogheda United 3 Cork City 0

FIRST-HALF goals from Jason Marks, Alan McNally and Ryan Brennan saw defending champions Drogheda comfortably through to the semi-finals.

Drogs were quickly on the offensive, forcing four corners inside the opening five minutes.

Eventually they broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Marks collected a loose ball and blasted a fierce strike past 'keeper Kevin Burns from 25 yards.

After a lull in play Drogheda finished the first half strongly, and with Cork in some disarray, the Boynesiders effectively sealed victory with two goals in as many minutes just before the break.

Derek Prendergast's scrambled shot was helped on its way to the net by the head of McNally, and Brennan converted a penalty after a hand-ball by Danny Murphy which looked accidental.

David Cassidy, Declan O'Brien and Brennan went close to adding to Drogheda's tally late on.
