Lynch finishes off Glens

(Sligo win 8-0 on agg)

Sligo always had the upper hand against a game but inexperienced Glentoran side at the Oval in Belfast last night.

Leading 5-0 from the first leg, this Setanta Cup tie was little more than a training exercise. Sligo led 2-0 at the break but it could have been more.

After just three minutes Rafael Cretaro rounded Aaron Hogg but with the empty goal gaping somehow managed to shoot against the post.

Lee Lynch fired the visitors ahead after seven minutes with a spectacular 35-yard effort which left Hogg helpless.

Eighteen minutes in and Cretaro atoned for his earlier miss by slotting in number two after Kieran Djilali found him with a defence-splitting pass.

After the break the young Glens showed more spirit and Gary Rogers was called upon to make two excellent saves from Jimmy Callacher and Martin Murray.

Five minutes from time sub Liam Martin made it 3-0 when he cut in from the right to fire past Hogg.

GLENTORAN – Hogg; Bradley, Birney, Callacher, Kane (McCullough 75); O'Hanlon (R Clake 55), McGuigan (Burns 69), Howland, M Clarke, Murray; Waterworth.

SLIGO ROVERS – Rogers; Keane (Owens 69), Henderson (McGinty 46), McMillan, Connolly; Millien, Cawley, Conneely, Lynch, Djilali; Cretaro (Martin 59).

Ref – R Rogers (Dublin).
