Longford turn on the style to hammer Drogheda
Drogheda 0 Longford 3
THERE was more misery by the Boyne for Drogheda United as goals from David O’Sullivan and Mark Salmon consigned Johnny McDonnell’s side to an eighth league game without a win.
It took just two minutes for Longford to hit the front at United Park when O’Sullivan latched onto Gary Shaw’s impudent flick and lifted the ball over the unrushing Micheal Schlingermann. Just before the hour mark, O’Sullivan turned provider when he crossed for Salmon to double their lead.
Shortly after Sean Thornton was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge, Salmon tapped in Kaleem Simon’s cross to secure the points for the visitors.
Drogheda were looking for a first win since their second league game but it was Tony Cousins’ men who dominated the game from the start.
Drogheda came into the game after going behind to O’Sullivan’s opening goal with both Mick Daly and Lloyd Buckley going close before half time and Tiernan Mulvenna waited far too long to pull the trigger when released soon after the break.
