Kinsella kicks off with Derry scalp
Derry City 0 Drogheda Utd 2
Drogheda United secured a massive three points and in doing so brought Derry City right back into the relegation dog-fight.
Mark Kinsella picked up the much-needed win in his first game as interim manager as the Drogs moved a point clear of the Candystripes, who looked a shadow of the side which beat St Patrick's Athletic last weekend.
Sean Thornton's header just before half-time and a Jason Marks strike late in the second half ensured United won in front of a disappointing Brandywell crowd. Derry's Patrick McEleney went close early on but Thornton made no mistake heading home Adam Whelan's inch-perfect cross on 43 minutes.
In the second half City pushed forward for the equaliser and thought they had levelled things on 72 minutes but Barry McNamee's curling free-kick hit the side netting.
The points were sealed on 77 minutes after Whelan's cut-back found an unmarked Marks who blasted home past Gerard Doherty.
