Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny says it would be disappointing if his team go on a Champions League run that ends up clashing with an FAI-organised friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

Earlier this week, the FAI announced that Manchester United and Sampdoria will meet at the venue on August 2.

That is also a Champions League date and, if Dundalk win their first game in this year's competition, they would be in action that week.

If they landed a glamour tie with an opponent such as Celtic, it could put the FAI in an awkward position.

"If we get there, maybe I will have a strong opinion on it," said Kenny. "When we play the first round, winning will be our ambition. If we do do that of course you'd be disappointed (with FAI). We might need the Aviva ourselves, do you know what I mean?

"But I'm not getting sidetracked or hung up on that because I've enough to concentrate on at the moment."
