Pat Fenlon’s Shamrock Rovers made it two wins from two starts with a clinical 2-0 win away to Longford.

The Hoops boss brought former Ireland internationals Keith Fahey and Stephen McPhail into his midfield and that duo were instrumental as Rovers dominated.

Sean O’Connor opened the scoring after 24 minutes when he picked the ball up outside the box and fired past hapless Longford keeper Paul Hunt.

Rovers continued to take the game to newly promoted Longford and were rewarded with a second goal five minutes before half-time when Danny North closed down a Longford defender and Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters picked up the loose ball before jinking past two defenders and hammering home.

Longford: Paul Hunt. Conor Powell, James Mulhall, Pat Flynn, Willie Tyrrell, Stephen Rice, Kevin O’Connor, Martin Deady, Mark Salmon, David O’Sullivan, Gary Shaw.

Shamrock Rovers: Craig Hyland, Simon Madden, Conor Kenna, David Webster, Luke Byrne, Kieran Marty Waters, Stephen McPhail, Keith Fahey, Gary McCabe, Sean O’Connor, Danny North.
