Gorman sinks seagulls

This second-round FAI cup replay triumph for Shelbourne was more about character than class but all that mattered at Tolka Park last night was the result.

Bray, marginally on top throughout the first period, were left reeling on the stroke of half-time.

Paddy Kavanagh's right-wing delivery caused panic in the Bray area and Philly Gorman reacted briskly to nudge Shels ahead.

Chances remained scarce after the interval but Shelbourne had their lead and were keen to protect it.

Bray were toiling, but Shels' central defenders Andy Boyle and Brian Shortall were safe and solid.

However, they were almost caught out seven minutes from time when Bray substitute Dane Massey's header hit the post.

Shelbourne -- Delany; Ryan, Boyle, Shortall, Clancy; Cassidy, Cronin, Dawson, Kavanagh; Hughes (Murphy, 84), Gorman.

Bray Wanderers -- Quigley; Webster, O'Connor, Sweeney, Knight (J Kelty, 84); Hanlon, Zambra (Bolger, 87), Houston (Massey, 67), Waters; Mulroy; Byrne.

Ref -- N Doyle (Dublin)
