Five-star United reach last eight
Drogheda Utd 5 Cobh Wanderers 1
Drogheda United put their league woes behind them to book their place in the last eight of the FAI Cup, a late flurry seeing them win big against Cobh Wanderers.
Braces in each half from Shane Elworthy and Chris Mulhall had Pete Mahon's men in control before Thomas Byrne's last-gasp finish. David Stack struck for Cobh.
The home side hit the front just before the half-hour mark. After a short corner, the impressive Jack Bayly crossed from the right and full-back Elworthy was at the far post to head in past 2007 cup-winning goalkeeper Michael Devine.
Elworthy had never scored a senior career goal going into last night's game but 15 minutes after his opener, he notched his second.
Bayly's shot was palmed away by Devine but only as far as the right back who followed up and finished well.
Mulhall beat Devine at the near post for 3-0 but Cobh hit back within 60 seconds, sub Stack with the finish.
In injury-time, Mulhall and sub Byrne hit the net.
