Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan reveals how he brought 'The Derry Pele' to Finn Park newsdesk

Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan made an appearance on the LOI Weekly podcast this week with the former Republic of Ireland schoolboys manager revealing how he brought Paddy McCourt, the 'Derry Pele', to Finn Park.

McCourt, who has made 12 appearances for Harps since signing for the Donegal based club in February, has had a big influence on proceedings in Ballybofey with Horgan claiming that the former Celtic midfielder has been immense both on and off the field for the club, despite concerns over his fitness coming into the start of the season.

"Paddy McCourt certainly isn’t a gamble for anybody," Horgan told LOI Weekly hosts Johnny Ward and Daniel McDonnell when asked if it was a risk bringing in McCourt.

"I think it was really just circumstances with Paddy and it's probably the main reason he's playing with us. You can speak to Paddy, and he can go into those details himself, but Paddy wanted to stay near home for personal reasons.

"I don't think it was ever a gamble with the standards he's brought in on the pitch, but to be fair to him, the standards he's brought in off the pitch have been great as well, and he's one of the lads that have played through injuries in the last number of weeks to basically put a team out on the pitch.

"He has struggled from week-to-week but he's still togged out to his credit. He's one of the players that could probably do with a couple of weeks rest to try and get him fully recovered but he's been excellent on and off the pitch for us and long may it continue."
