Caolan McAleer’s brace set Finn Harps up for their first league win – at the 16th attempt.

McAleer’s double, along with Nathan Boyle’s goal early in the second half, sees Harps climb to within three points of tonight’s opponents.

The Donegal side took a deserved lead when McAleer weaved past Mark Dignam and riffled past UCD goalkeeper Conor Kearns, via a touch from the post.

Just 53 seconds into the second half, Boyle fired into the bottom corner after the opening was worked by Raffaele Cretaro and John Kavanagh.

Midway through the second half, McAleer added his second, blasting beyond Kearns.

UCD – Kearns; Tobin, Scales, Collins, M Dignam (Coffey 67); O’Farrell (McClelland 84), Doyle, O’Neill, Farrugia; Mahdy, C Davis (McDonald 76).
