The future of Ferrycarrig Park, the home of Wexford Youths, has been secured after the completion of a deal which will see the FAI and the Wexford League become the joint owners.

Mick Wallace owned and developed the extensive facility but it went into receivership in 2013 and there were fears it would be lost to the game.

Discussions have been ongoing for some time and the purchase of the complex from the receiver will ensure it remains the home ground of Premier Division newcomers Wexford Youths and their all-conquering women's side.

Denis Hennessy, chairman of the Wexford Football League, said: "We're delighted to have the purchase of the land secured and look forward to working with Wexford Youths and the FAI going forward. It would have been a disaster for the ground to slip away."

Wallace added: "The Wexford Youths are now a well-established integral part of community life in Wexford and the south east region and today's announcement has to be good news for all concerned."
