On December 8, two days after success over Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup final, Dundalk announced that the Italian Filippo Giovagnoli had been appointed as the club’s ‘head coach’ on a permanent basis.

That was the terminology of the press release but while the word ‘head’ was missing from the news story on the official website, the headline ‘Filippo takes over on a full-time basis’ did not leave much room for doubt about who was in charge going forward.
