Duggan stars as Limerick march into semi-finals
Limerick FC 2 Galway United 0
Limerick's fairytale season continues as they easily dispatched Galway United to advance to the semi-final of the EA Sports Cup.
The runaway First Division leaders scored their 52nd and 53rd goals of an unbeaten run that now stretches to 12 games in all competitions.
It was Limerick who played like the top-flight side but with Tommy Dunne making seven changes, the Tribesmen's focus was clearly on Friday's clash with Dundalk.
Goals in either half from Paudie O'Connor and Shane Duggan sealed Limerick's place in the last four.
O'Connor flashed a header over three minutes before he eventually put the hosts in front when he reacted quickest to a mix-up in the Galway box.
Robbie Williams came within inches of scoring but his 35-yard strike came back off the bar. Kevin Horgan was beaten for a second time six minutes after the restart when Duggan was played through and finished well.
John Sullivan almost got Galway back into it with 20 minutes left but Freddy Hall tipped his header onto the bar; it was a rare chance in a game that Limerick dominated.
