Derry City's disappointing form continued after they could only manage a point against strugglers UCD.

City missed a golden chance to take the lead on 11 minutes but Patrick McEleney's penalty was kept out by a diving Conor O'Donnell, after James Kavanagh had brought down the midfielder.

The Students scored a fantastic goal on 35 minutes when Robert Benson ran at the City defence past Jon Paul McGovern and, from the edge of the box, the skipper coolly chipped a flat-footed Gerard Doherty.

Derry equalised on 44 minutes after a tremendous cross by McGovern from the right found Michael Duffy, who made no mistake. But the hosts were missing the attacking threat of top scorer Rory Patterson, who was sent to play for the reserves in Donegal last night.

The Students could have regained the lead on 58 minutes but Doherty came to the rescue when he saved well from Chris Mulhall. The visitors missed another great chance with 12 minutes remaining as Samir Belhout got behind the City defence but, with only Doherty to beat, he somehow fired over.

Derry City – Doherty, Collins, Byrne, Elebert (Barry h-t), Jarvis; McGovern (Stewart 70), Ventre, P McEleney (Foy 80), Duffy; E Curran, R Curran.

UCD – O'Donnell, Langtry, Boyle, Kavanagh, Creevy, Benson, Mulhall, Douglas, Crowe, Belhout, Morrison.
