Drogheda earn big point
Drogheda United 1 Cork City 1
Drogheda United earned a valuable point in their battle against relegation as Cork City's slender title hopes were finally extinguished at United Park.
The home side hit the front just seven minutes in courtesy of a mistake from Cork goalkeeper Mark McNulty. He dallied on a back-pass from Dan Murray with Keith Treacy in close proximity.
The former Ireland winger blocked his clearance and the ball ricocheted in for the opening goal.
But Drogheda's lead lasted just three minutes. After a corner was cleared, the ball was recycled out to Gavan Holohan on the left and his cross was superbly flicked past Micheal Schlingermann by Karl Sheppard.
John Caulfield's side looked more likely to score a second. Darren Dennehy and Sheppard went close either side of half-time.
