Derry City are off the mark for the season thanks to goals from Stephen Mallon and Walter Figueira.

The Candystripes had to be patient against a disciplined Bohs side before a stunning effort from Mallon changed the game. Bohs held their own and frustrated Derry early on, with chances few and far between.

The visitors came so close to taking the lead ten minutes into the second half when City defender Danny Lupano failed to control the ball on the edge of his own penalty area, and suddenly Kris Twardek was through on goal, lobbing Peter Cherrie, only for Lupano to get back and acrobatically hook the ball off the line.

The goal the game needed arrived on 64 minutes and it was one to savour as Mallon collected the ball deep into the Bohs half and raced into the penalty box before lashing it past McGuinness and into the top corner.

Bohs pushed in the closing stages but Derry broke and Adam Liddle set up Figueira who scooped the ball past McGuinness to seal the win.
