Longford Town held their nerve to defeat Finn Harps in a shoot-out in Ballybofey and book a last 16 spot in the FAI Cup.
Martin Deady’s winning spot-kick sent Town through after Gareth Harkin was denied by Paul Hunt and Josh Mailey hit the post.
Harps had the better of the chances and came closest to winning it in extra-time, but subs Kevin McHugh and Garbhan Friel were both denied by the woodwork.
The home side had been on top in normal time, too. Raymond Foy almost caught Hunt out in the 13th minute, but a wind-assisted effort clipped the top of the crossbar while Gareth Harkin was just over with a teasing free soon after.
Longford’s Lorcan Shannon finished from close range, but the strike was chalked off for a handball which was as close as either side got to scoring in the 120 minutes before the shoot-out.
