The FAI have confirmed that the League of Ireland will switch to two 10-team divisions for the 2018 season following recommendations from the Premier Clubs Alliance (PCA).

The move comes after a series of meetings between both the FAI and PCA in recent weeks. The 2017 First Division champions will be promoted with three teams relegated from the Premier Division.

Meanwhile, the fixtures for the 2017 season have been released and have thrown up a mouth-watering clash between champions Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers on the opening night, February 24, in Oriel Park.

That match will have added significance following Ronan Finn's surprising switch from Dundalk back to Shamrock Rovers.

The full fixture list can be viewed here.
