Derry City comfortably saw off Finn Harps thanks to a Ciaron Harkin treble at the Brandywell tonight.

Derry struck the opening goal just past the half-hour mark when Daniel O’Reilly was adjudged to have fouled David Parkhouse in the area and referee Tomas Connolly pointed to the penalty spot.

Junior Ogedi took the ball and while his spot-kick was poor, giving Peter Burke an easy save, the Harps goalkeeper could not hold onto the ball and the striker was able to sweep in the rebound.

Derry doubled their lead just before half-time with an exquisite strike. Junior was again in the thick of things, winning City a free-kick and there was nothing Burke could do as Harkin lashed the ball into the top corner from 20 yards.

The game was ended as a contest on 67 minutes as Greg Sloggett robbed Keith Cowan and set Derry on the counter which ended in Harkin sweeping in his second of the night to make it 3-0 before he sealed his hat-trick in added time.
