Champions Cork Complete McNamee Swoop
Double champions Cork City have added to their squad by capturing creative Derry midfielder Barry McNamee. Limerick were keen on the out-of-contract player but John Caulfield made a decisive move in recent weeks to convince the 25-year-old to move to Leeside, where he will help to fill the void left by the loss of Greg Bolger to Shamrock Rovers.
McNamee tends to be more comfortable in advanced areas and Caulfield is thrilled by his addition.
"He is a perfect player to come into our team," said Caulfield. "He is energetic, has lots of experience and is coming into the prime of his career."
"He is another fantastic signing for us. He scores goals from midfield and he also creates a lot. He is exactly the type of player we want to bring in."
Meanwhile, City veteran Alan Bennett will head Down Under for a month's holiday today safe in the knowledge that he will be back in action at Turner's Cross next season.
Bennett has agreed terms on a new two-year deal with the 36-year-old playing a vital part in a fantastic end to the campaign that ended with a league and cup double.
As part of the fresh deal, he will also take a more active role in the club's underage section.
The centre half has been named as the Airtricity/SWAI Player of the Month for October. "This is an unbelievable time in everyone's lives, it really is," he said. "You have to savour it. I'm really happy John has shown trust in me."
