Byrne keeps Bohs on up and up
Drogheda United 0 Bohemians 1
Bohemians are emerging as the surprise package of the Premier Division after Dan Byrne's 75th-minute headed goal secured all three points against Drogheda United.
The Gypsies were being widely tipped as relegation contenders before a ball was kicked this season, but after losing their two opening games they have since taken 10 points out of a possible 12.
In an otherwise dour first-half at United Park, Drogheda should have gone ahead on 39 minutes when Sean Thornton rolled the ball wide with only Shane Supple to beat.
Supple made a good save to deny Stephen Elliott straight after the interval, while at the other end Derek Pender made a great run into the box and hit a powerful effort which Drogs net-minder Stephen McGuinness did very well to hold.
The Gypsies found another gear at this stage and they finally made the breakthrough on 75 minutes when Kaleem Simon won a free-kick out on the left and Byrne headed home Lorcan Fitzgerald's delivery.
