Buckley back at Saints helm

LIAM BUCKLEY last night began the process of assembling a competitive squad for next season after he returned to the job of St Patrick's Athletic manager, WRITES Ruaidhri O'Connor.

The Saints yesterday informed Pete Mahon that his contract would not be renewed, before handing Buckley a two-year deal.

The 51-year-old returns to the club where he spent five seasons as a player, one as assistant manager and a year and a half as manager, leading the Saints to their last league title in 1998-99.

"At the minute I'm assessing the whole thing, but I will be bringing in some new players," he said.

Meanwhile, Jason McGuinness has committed to Sligo Rovers for another season, but Daryl Horgan has left the Showgrounds for Cork City, where he spent much of last season on loan.

Cork have also tied up a new deal for Cathal Lordan.
