Bray Wanderers have appointed Dave Mackey as their new manager to replace Harry Kenny.

Kenny departed his post in November following a turbulent campaign where concerns hung over the future of the Seagulls.

And the long wait to appoint a replacement was a source of anxiety with Bray expected to cut their budget for 2018.

They have just five players under contract and one of those - midfielder Keith Buckley - last week went public on his desire to leave because of the uncertainty.

He won a league with Dundalk during his playing career and was part of the backroom staff at Bray between 2008 and 2013, serving as assistant boss and working with the U19 side during that stint.

"Dave takes up his role with 30+ years experience as a player, coach and manager in the League of Ireland and boasts a proven track record in recruitment and development of young players for first team football," said a statement from Bray. "The club looks forward to a long and fruitful spell with Dave at the helm."
