Noel Haverty headed home the equaliser before clearing the ball off his own goal-line as Longford edged closer to safety by sharing the spoils with 10-man Bohemians at Dalymount Park.
Bohs were left a man short on 37 minutes when Keith Buckley was sent off for a second yellow card following a foul on Pat Sullivan.
Three minutes later, the Gypsies were ahead thanks to a stunning strike from Paddy Kavanagh, who cut in from the right to rifle a left-footer into the net.
Town hit back right on the interval when Haverty looped a header into to the net from Ayman Ben Mohamed's corner.
And he was the Longford hero again five minutes into the second half when he cleared Akinade's goal-bound header before Dean Kelly cracked a shot off a post at the other end.
