Boco hits brace in epic

Romuald Boco scored twice as Sligo Rovers almost blew a four-goal lead against Sporting Fingal at the Showgrounds last night. The Benin international scored in each half, as Rovers gained revenge for last season's FAI Cup defeat to Fingal.

The opener came when Joseph Ndo's initial 38th- minute corner was cleared back out to him, and his second delivery picked out an unmarked Gavin Peers to finish from close range.

Rovers got their second on the stroke of half-time as the lively Boco brilliantly lifted the ball over Darren Quigley and into the net.

Rovers claimed a third on the hour-mark, when Ndo's corner dropped to Boco at the back post who volleyed home.

And Rovers threw on Gary McCabe and Eoin Doyle in the closing stages, and the pair combined for the fourth as McCabe crossed for Doyle to tap home.

But Fingal gave the home side a nervous closing few minutes as Gary O'Neill slid the ball into the net from close range, and then defender Kenny Browne finished from close range after a corner.

And Shaun Williams grabbed a third in injury-time before Rovers eventually pulled through.
