Baraclough gets Sligo job
SLIGO Rovers last night appointed 41-year-old Englishman Ian Baraclough as their new manager following the departure of Paul Cook to Accrington.
Baraclough spent his playing career in the English lower leagues, and moved into management at Scunthorpe following a stint there as a player and coach.
He was dismissed last March after six months in charge with the club in a Championship relegation battle.
He watched new side Sligo in their friendly victory over Longford on Saturday, and must adapt to his new circumstances quickly with the Bit O'Red kicking off the new League of Ireland season against Shelbourne on Friday.
"Timescales are not helping in terms of the league starting, but there is nothing that can be done about that now," he said.
"It is a fantastic opportunity and I am very thankful for the chance."
