No fooling around from Bohemians on the first day of April as Keith Long's side got their first win in four games to at least hint to their supporters that 2016 could bring some joy their way.

Inspired by ex-Longford man Aymen Ben Mohammed, two goals just before half-time will have pleased the home supporters in the crowd of 1,340, those points needed as Bohs face tough tests against the top three sides before the end of the month.

Bohs have been defensively lax this season, just one clean sheet in six league and cup games so far, and there was more of that porous attitude last night.

In the space of four minutes, errors by Eoin Wearen and Dan Byrne gifted chances to Longford but Kaleem Simon and Josh O'Hanlon were unable to punish the mistakes.

And Longford paid the price as they were hit with a two-goal blast in the space of three minutes before the break. On 42 minutes, Ben Mohammed created an opening for Keith Buckley with a clever pass and midfielder Buckley chipped the ball over keeper Paul Skinner from a tight angle.

In first-half injury time, Bohs doubled that lead. Derek Pender worked hard to send in a cross and Ben Mohamed was left unmarked at the far post to slide home his first goal for Bohs.

The addition of Kurtis Byrne off the bench only strengthened their hand, and there was no way back for Longford, though a block from Lorcan Fitzgerald was needed to deny sub Don Cowan.

So a precious win and clean sheet for Bohs but the points came at a cost as Derek Pender was injured and Long can only hope his captain makes a rapid return.
