Republic of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan showed prospective clubs the talent he still possesses with a spectacular overhead kick in Copenhagen.

The 35-year-old was released by Aston Villa at the end of the season after helping the Birmingham club regain a place in the Premier League via the playoffs.

Whelan is expected to anchor the Irish midfield this evening in their crucial Euro 2020 qualifier against the Danes.

The Dubliner joked earlier in the week that 'Real Madrid were on the phone' but yesterday Whelan scored a goal worthy of the Galacticos.

While practising crosses from out wide, Whelan peeled off to the back post and scored a screamer with his right foot.
