RTE commentator Ger Canning made special reference to broadcasting legend Bill O'Herlihy prior to the Munster hurling semi-final between Cork and Waterford.

A minute's silence was held at Semple Stadium prior to throw-in for former inter-county referee Willie Horgan before Derek McGrath's youthful side defeated to Rebels to book a place in the provincial decider.

As well as speaking briefly about Horgan, Canning paid tribute to the recently deceased O'Herlihy, who was known to be a passionate supporter of his native Cork.

"Can I also include here in this minute's silence today a little mention of my late colleague, Bill O'Herlihy," he told RTE viewers.

"Every time we met, there was only one topic of conversation - and that was the state of Cork hurling.

"Ar dheis De go raibh a anam."
