Stephen Kenny's Ireland under-21 side drawn in tough group for European qualifying campaign

Republic of Ireland under-21 boss Stephen Kenny will have to negotiate a group containing Italy and Sweden if they are to qualify for the 2021 European Championships.

Iceland, Armenia and Luxembourg complete Group One.

The nine group winners qualify automatically for the finals.

Runners-up with the best records against the teams first, third, fourth and fifth in their group will go into a play-off to determine the last finals berth.

The qualifiers begin in March with fixtures to be announced later today.

Kenny will leave his post with one rounds of games to go to take over from Mick McCarthy in August 2020.
