Republic of Ireland defender Shane Duffy posted a picture from his hospital bed after going under the knife to repair a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot

Duffy was injured late on in Brighton’s Championship defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday and he underwent surgery today, ruling him out for at least weeks.

Duffy’s injury is a blow for Martin O’Neill, who will name his squad for the crucial World Cup qualifier with Wales next Monday.

He tweeted today: "Successful op this morning all done! Thanks for all your support will be back in no time! Come on the lads tonight massive 3 points now"

Brighton are away to Rotherham tonight.

Robbie Bray will also miss the game through suspension.
