Seamus Coleman will miss Ireland's Euro 2020 playoff against Slovakia after sustaining an injury while playing for Everton in last Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester United.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy confirmed the news at the UEFA Nations League draw in Amsterdam this evening.

The Ireland captain picked up a thigh injury during the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park and McCarthy confirmed the Donegalman's absence for the crunch tie in Bratislava on March 26.

In-form Wolves right-back Matt Doherty will be the favourite to replace Coleman, with Fulham's Cyrus Christie also in contention.
