Matt Doherty a major doubt for doubleheader with Northern Ireland and Denmark over facial injury
Matt Doherty is a major doubt for Ireland's doubleheader with Northern Ireland and Denmark due to a facial injury.
The Wolves player was struck during his club's Premier League draw with Arsenal on Sunday and he has stayed in England to undergo a scan and see a specialist.
Doherty was finally given a competitive chance by Martin O'Neill in last month's double header with Denmark and Wales.
But the return of captain Seamus Coleman had cast doubt over whether he would feature in Thursday's friendly with Northern Ireland and Monday's return match with Denmark in Aarhus.
However, O'Neill had floated the prospect of trying to find room for Coleman, Doherty and Cyrus Christie in the same side.
Fulham right full Christie was picked in midfield for the October fixtures.
