Stoke forward Jon Walters will captain the Republic of Ireland for tonight's international friendly with Uruguay.

Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has made eight changes to the Irish side that lost 3-1 to Mexico in New Jersey with West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph and Brighton defender Shane Duffy the only survivors from Thursday's defeat.

Burnley defender Kevin Long will come into the centre of defence to play alongside Duffy for the first time at international level, while Cyrus Christie and Stephen Ward will line out at full-back.

In midfield, Long's clubmates Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick will play alongside Stoke City's Glenn Whelan and Bournemouth's Harry Arter, with Aberdeen's Jonny Hayes and Walters rounding out the attack.
