Ireland boost as James McCarthy's problems seem to be over
Martin O'Neill received welcome news from Goodison Park yesterday when Everton's manager Roberto Martinez outlined how he expects James McCarthy to be available for the remainder of this season's European Championship qualifiers.
Having missed ten weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, McCarthy has undergone extensive treatment since December to rectify the problem.
"James was in hospital yesterday to make sure that he is fully recovered and the scan showed that he is perfectly healed," said Martinez.
"I expect James to be available for Saturday (against Liverpool). In fact, I expect him to be fully fit for the rest of the season.
"It's been a frustrating time for him, and us, because James is a very important player but I can see the injury is behind him now."
