'I think about the World Cup' - Jose Mourinho targeting international job as he plots return to management
Jose Mourinho has revealed he would like to return to management at international level, after admitting he wants to be part of a major tournament with a national team.
Mourinho was bizarrely linked with the role of Scotland manager earlier this year and while that prospect always seemed fanciful, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has confirmed that he would be consider an international role if the right opportunity presented itself.
The two-time Champions League winning manager has previously hinted he would like to finish his career managing his native Portugal, but it seems he may be open to other options as he plots a return to the game.
"I want to compete in new competitions, I think about the World Cup and the European Championships," the coach said during an interview on Eleven Sports.
"For a long time I have had the desire to try out such an adventure. Right now, I see myself more at a national team than with a new club. Is Portugal the right team for me? Not necessarily."
Mourinho’s comments are certain to alert numerous national associations around the world, with the 56-year-old, who has confirmed that he is keen to get back into the game, clearly keeping all of his options open.
