As expected, it didn't take too long for the name of Jack Grealish to be top of the Twitter trend following his announcement that he will represent the country of his birth at international level.
While the news was somewhat expected, Grealish's name was soon plastered all over social media and the reaction was very much mixed.
Shay Given wished his team-mate all the best: "Sad to see @JackGrealish1 has chosen to play for England and not us @FAIreland Wish him well for the future #BigTalent."
Richie Sadlier, meanwhile, is just glad the saga is finally over and says it is time to move on now and try to develop our own talent.
"Distraction over, now let's have a serious look into why we produce so few decent young players ourselves #Grealish," he tweeted.

The circus around Jack Grealish is over. He has made his choice and good luck. Ireland has gained from the reverse happening many times— Gareth (@garethpenrose) September 28, 2015
Jack Grealish opts to play for England and therefore retire from International Football. Can't blame him, he is English after all.— Laurence Kinlan (@laurencekinlan) September 28, 2015
I've been reliably informed that Jack Grealish has elected to play for England because it makes more "commercial sense" to do so. Great— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) September 28, 2015
