Martin O'Neill has finalised his squad for the must-win World cup qualifiers against Moldova on Friday and the showdown against Wales Cardiff on Monday

The uncapped trio of Millwall striker Aiden O'Brien, Preston frontman Seanie Maguire and Villa forward Scott Hogan will all be involved.

Injury rules out goalkeeper Keiren Westwood (ribs), while striker Kevin Doyle has retired due to concussion-related symptoms. A number of players are carrying knocks and will be assessed by the FAI medical team.

Everton's James McCarthy is still in the squad despite major doubts over his availability.

Harry Arter and David McGoldrick appear to winning their battle to be fit for the game.

"Harry didn't play at the weekend," said O'Neill.

"He thinks he'll be ready to go on Friday. Eunan O'Kane has cracked ribs but he played with a pain-killing injection for Leeds at the weekend.

"We'll see how he is. Shane Long got a dead leg at the weekend. We'll see how he is as well but he's not feeling too bad."

Victory in both games will give Ireland a chance of making a playoff spot as one of best runners-up but six points may not be enough.

The Ireland squad began preparations for the final two Group D games with a session at FAI National Training Centre on Monday.
