Former Ireland international David Meyler (30) forced to retire due to knee injury
Former Ireland midfielder David Meyler has decided to retire from football due to injury.
The Cork-born player had been without a club since his contract with Reading was ended in the summer and now he has confirmed his decision to quit.
"After a few hard days of thinking I have decided to retire from playing professional football. The injuries I sustained to my right knee have eventually caught up with me and I am left with no other option," he said on Twitter.
Meyler, 30, began his senior career with Cork City and played for Sunderland, Hull and reading and was capped 26 times.
